Venice Gondolier Best of Venice 2024 certificate naming Apogee Upholstery the winner for Upholstery Service

We are proud to share that Apogee Upholstery was voted Best Upholstery Service in Venice for 2024 by readers of the Venice Gondolier. The Best of Venice program is decided by the community, not by a panel, so this award comes from the boat owners, drivers, campers and business owners we work with every week. Thank you to every customer who voted and to everyone who has trusted us with a seat, a cushion or a cover.

What the award recognizes

The Venice Gondolier's Best of Venice is an annual readers' choice vote covering local businesses across the area. Winning the Upholstery Service category means our customers took the time to say that the work we do, from boat cushions and camper mattresses to restaurant seating and outdoor furniture, is the work they would recommend to a neighbor. For a family-owned shop, that is the recognition that matters most.

Why we think customers voted for us

Marine upholstery built for the Gulf Coast

Florida's climate is hard on everything soft on a boat. We build with marine-grade vinyl that resists UV, mildew and salt, closed-cell marine foam that does not hold water, UV-resistant thread and stainless hardware, and we build canvas enclosures, T-top covers and custom marine covers to the same standard. A seat that still looks right after three summers at the dock in Venice is what earns a vote. Our boat upholstery services page covers the full range.

Craftsmanship across boats, cars, RVs and more

The same care goes into a classic truck interior, a Katzkin leather installation, an RV dinette or a set of patio cushions. A StarCraft 2000 deck boat restored in tan and white, a 1946 Chevrolet pickup finished in black leather and a burnt orange pontoon are all in our gallery, and all were built by the same hands.

Communication and clear timelines

Good upholstery is only half the job. Customers want to know what the work will cost, how long it will take and what materials are going in, and they want to hear from us if something changes. Every project, whether it is a single cushion or a full interior, gets personal attention and a straight answer.

A few of the projects behind the vote

Awards are won one job at a time, so here are some of the projects from the past year that we think earned it. A full set of clear vinyl enclosure panels for the Lady Cindy, with new clear windshield panels and zippered rear and side panels. A custom T-top enclosure for a center console fishing boat. A fitted black cover for a Bennington pontoon at the dock. Diamond-stitched grey seating on a Yellowfin, and an 8-seater golf cart recovered in two-tone grey and black.

Every one of those owners had a different problem, and every one got a seat, cover or enclosure built for Florida conditions rather than a quick patch.

Serving Venice and the Gulf Coast

Our shop is at 420 E Venice Ave in Venice, FL, open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with room to pull in a boat trailer or an RV and a fenced storage lot next door. We serve customers across Nokomis, Englewood, Osprey, Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda and the surrounding area, and we have pages dedicated to Englewood, North Port and Port Charlotte owners.

What is next

An award is a good reason to keep improving rather than to coast. We are expanding what the shop can take on, upgrading equipment, and continuing to publish practical articles in our news and tips section on topics like which materials actually survive Florida sun, how to decide between restoring and replacing a boat seat, and what goes into a custom cover. Expect more behind-the-scenes project write-ups and before-and-after galleries through the year.

If you have been putting off a worn seat, a faded cover or a flat camper bed, we would be glad to show you why our customers voted the way they did. More about the shop is on our about page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Venice Gondolier Best of Venice award?

The Venice Gondolier is the local newspaper for Venice, FL, and Best of Venice is its annual readers' choice program, where the community votes for local businesses in a range of categories. Apogee Upholstery was voted the winner for Upholstery Service in 2024. Because it is decided by readers rather than a panel, it reflects the experience of the people we actually work for.

What kind of upholstery work do you do?

Boat seats, cushions, covers, T-top canvas and clear vinyl enclosures are the largest part of our work, followed by car, truck and classic car interiors including Katzkin leather, RV and camper cushions and mattresses, golf cart seats, small aircraft interiors with FAA-compliant materials, and outdoor, patio and commercial seating. All of it is built in our shop at 420 E Venice Ave.

Do you serve areas outside Venice?

Yes. Customers come to us from Nokomis, Osprey, Sarasota, Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Rotonda West and Boca Grande. Boats and RVs can be dropped off on their trailers, and we have a fenced storage lot next to the shop if a project needs to stay with us for a while.

How do I get an estimate?

Call (941) 786-4100 or send photos of the seat, cushion or cover through the contact page. Estimates are free, and we will give you a realistic timeline along with the quote. Most seat jobs take days, and full interiors usually take one to two weeks depending on materials.
