Headliner Repair & Replacement – Sagging Headliners Fixed Right in Venice, FL
We proudly serve Venice, FL and the surrounding area, including Nokomis, Osprey, Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, Rotonda West, Boca Grande, Punta Gorda, Sarasota and beyond.
Why Headliners Sag in Florida
A sagging headliner is the most common interior failure on a car that lives in Florida. The fabric is usually fine; the thin foam bonding it to the board breaks down in the heat, turns to dust and lets go. Apogee Upholstery replaces headliners at our shop in Venice, FL for cars, trucks, SUVs, vans and classics across Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
We do not pin it or spray glue over it. The headliner board comes out of the vehicle, every trace of old foam is scraped off, and new foam-backed headliner fabric is bonded to the clean board with high-temperature adhesive. Visors, pillars and dome-light trim can be re-wrapped to match while the board is out.
Heat kills the foam, not the fabric
Headliner fabric is laminated to a thin foam layer. In a closed car on a Venice afternoon that foam crumbles and stops holding anything, and the fabric droops even though it looks fine.
Spray glue is a short fix
Gluing the old fabric back over crumbled foam holds for a few weeks, because the glue is bonding to dust. We remove the board and strip it bare.
Boards warp and crumble
Fiberglass and cardboard boards sag, crack at the sunroof and go soft when wet. We repair or reinforce the board before new fabric goes on.
Water and odor
A leaking sunroof drain or windshield seal stains the headliner and leaves a smell. We tell you what will clean, what must be replaced and where the water is getting in.

Our Headliner Services

Sagging Headliner Replacement
The board is removed, stripped of old foam and glue, re-covered in new foam-backed headliner fabric with high-temperature adhesive and reinstalled with the grab handles, lights and trim.
- Board removed, not glued in place
- Old foam stripped to the substrate
- OEM-style foam-backed fabric in matching colors

Sunroof & Moonroof Headliners
Sunroof cars add a cutout, a sliding shade and more trim. We wrap the fabric cleanly into the opening, re-wrap the shade panel to match and check the drains while the board is out.
- Fabric wrapped into the sunroof opening
- Sliding shade panel re-covered to match
- Sunroof drains checked for leaks

Pillars, Visors & Dome-Light Trim
The trim around the headliner sags too. Pillars, sun visors, overhead consoles and dome-light bezels are re-wrapped in the same fabric so nothing looks mismatched.
- Pillar trim re-wrapped in matching fabric
- Sun visors re-covered or rebuilt
- Overhead console and light bezels

Classic Car Headliners
Older cars use a bow-style headliner: fabric sewn into listings that hang on steel bows and glued at the edges. We sew them in period-correct cloth or vinyl and hang them the way the factory did.
- Bow-style headliners sewn with listings
- Period-correct cloth and perforated vinyl
- Windlace and trim to match

Trucks, SUVs & Vans
Crew cab trucks, three-row SUVs and work vans have long one-piece boards that are awkward to remove without cracking. We have the room to get them out whole and re-cover them in one piece.
- Crew cab and extended cab trucks
- Three-row SUVs and minivans
- Cargo and conversion vans

Water-Stain & Odor Assessment
Not every stained headliner needs replacing. We tell you what will clean, where the stain says water is getting in, and when a musty smell means wet foam that has to go.
- Honest clean-versus-replace assessment
- Leak source identified before new fabric goes in
- Odor removed with the old foam, not covered up

Headliner Repair & Replacement FAQ
Why is my headliner sagging?
Heat. Headliner fabric is bonded to a thin layer of foam, and after years of Florida sun that foam breaks down into dust and stops holding the fabric to the board. Humidity and a leaking sunroof speed it up. The fabric is usually sound; the foam underneath has failed.
Can you just glue my headliner back up?
We will not, because it does not last. The old foam has turned to powder, so glue sprayed through the fabric bonds to dust and lets go within weeks. The right repair is removing the board, stripping it clean and bonding new foam-backed fabric with high-temperature adhesive.
How long does a headliner replacement take?
Most cars and trucks are done in a day or two once the fabric is in stock. Sunroof cars, large vans and classic bow-style headliners take longer. You get a timeline with the quote, and we schedule so you are without the vehicle as little as possible.
Can you match my factory headliner color?
Usually, yes. Foam-backed headliner fabric comes in the greys, tans, beiges and blacks the factories use, and we match against your visors or pillar trim. If you want a change, perforated and suede-look fabrics are available, and we re-wrap the pillars and visors to match.
Do you do headliners on classic cars?
Yes. Classic cars use bow-style headliners sewn with listings that slide over steel bows. We sew them in period-correct cloth or vinyl and hang them the way the factory did. We did the complete interior on a 1946 Chevrolet pickup, and the same care goes into every headliner.
My headliner has water stains. Does it need replacing?
Not always. Light stains on sound fabric can sometimes be cleaned. Stains with a musty smell usually mean the foam and board are wet and should be replaced. Either way, we point you to the leak, often a sunroof drain or windshield seal, so the new headliner stays dry.
