If you have been typing "Katzkin installer near me" into your phone somewhere between Sarasota and Punta Gorda, here is the short answer: we install Katzkin leather seat kits at our shop at 420 E Venice Ave in Venice, FL. You do not need a dealership and you do not need to drive to a big city. Bring the vehicle to us, pick your leather, and we handle the rest in-house.
This page explains what a Katzkin kit is and what it is not, which options are worth having in the Florida sun, how our installation works, which vehicles we fit, and what to expect for turnaround.
What a Katzkin leather kit is
Katzkin makes complete leather seat upholstery kits cut for a specific make, model, trim level and model year. The kit replaces your factory cloth, or your cracked factory leather, entirely. It is not a slipcover and it does not stretch over the old material. The old covers come off, the new leather goes on, and the result fits like the seats were trimmed that way on the assembly line.
Because the kit is built for the exact seat, the seams, bolsters, inserts and headrests all follow the original layout. That is what separates a Katzkin interior from a generic aftermarket cover: when it is installed properly, nobody can tell it was not factory.
What you get with a Katzkin kit:
- New automotive-grade leather, not a cover over the old cloth
- OEM fit and finish, with seams in the factory positions
- Heated and ventilated options for many applications
- Color matching to your existing trim, or contrast stitching and two-tone designs

Katzkin dealer near me, or Katzkin installer near me?
The two searches lead to different places. A "Katzkin dealer" result is usually a car dealership that sells leather as an add-on at the time of purchase and then sends the seats out to be done. A "Katzkin installer" is the shop that actually does the work.
We are the second kind. Apogee Upholstery is a working upholstery shop, not a parts counter. We rebuild marine seating, RV cushions and classic car interiors every week, which means we understand what is under the leather: the foam, the springs, the frame and the fasteners. When a seat comes apart on our bench, we are looking at all of it, not just swapping a cover.
That matters for two reasons. First, a kit fits better over foam that has been inspected and conditioned. Second, if we find a collapsed bolster or a broken seat spring while the seat is open, we can fix it then instead of hiding it under new leather.
Options worth considering in Florida
Color and two-tone
Most owners either match the factory interior color so the dash, door panels and carpet still work together, or they choose a two-tone design with a contrasting insert. Both are available. If you are matching, bring the vehicle so we can compare samples against your actual trim in daylight rather than guessing from a catalog photo.
Contrast stitching and perforation
Contrast stitching is the fastest way to give a stock interior some character without changing the overall color. Perforated inserts add breathability, which is welcome in a vehicle that sits in a Nokomis or Englewood parking lot all afternoon. Perforation is also what makes ventilated seating work, so if you want cooling, plan for it.
Heated seats and cooling fans
Heated seat modules and cooling fans can be installed while the seats are already disassembled for the leather. Doing both jobs at once saves a second teardown. We will talk through the wiring and the switch location at the consultation.
Custom embroidery
Headrest embroidery is available as an add-on. It is a small detail that makes the interior feel finished and personal.

Vehicles we install Katzkin on
Katzkin builds kits for a very long list of trucks, sedans and SUVs. Some of the common ones that come through our shop are the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevy Tahoe and Toyota Camry, but if you drive something else, there is a good chance a kit exists for it. We will check your exact trim before quoting.
We install Katzkin leather for:
- Personal vehicles, where the owner simply wants leather instead of cloth
- Commercial fleets and work trucks that need a cabin that cleans up easily
- Classic restorations where a modern seat is being trimmed to match the rest of the build
- Dealership upgrades on new and used inventory
If your project is less about a kit and more about a one-off custom design, see our car upholstery services page. Both kinds of work happen on the same benches.
Our Katzkin installation process
We do not treat a Katzkin install as a side job. The steps are the same ones we use on a full custom interior.
- Consultation and style selection. You choose the leather, the colors and the accents. We walk you through the Katzkin catalog and help you land on a design that fits the vehicle and the way you use it.
- Seat removal and prep. The seats come out of the vehicle and the factory covers are carefully removed. We inspect the foam underneath and condition or repair it, because the fit and the lifespan of the new leather depend on what is under it.
- Fitting and stitching. The kit is installed in-house using the same techniques we use on classic car and marine interiors. Every panel is pulled tight, aligned and fastened so the seams run straight.
- Finishing. Clean seams, smooth edges and a detailed inspection. Nothing goes back in the vehicle until it looks showroom-correct.
- Optional add-ons. Heated seat modules, cooling fans or custom embroidery are completed before the seats are reinstalled.
Already have your kit?
If you bought a Katzkin kit elsewhere, bring it in. We will check it against your seats before any factory material is removed, then install it exactly as we would one we ordered ourselves.
If you still need to choose your leather, we will help you design the interior, place the order, and install it in one to two business days once the kit arrives at the shop. You can also see examples of finished car and truck interiors in our gallery.

Keeping new leather looking new in Southwest Florida
Leather holds up well here if you give it a little help. A few habits make a real difference:
- Park in shade or use a windshield sunshade when you can. UV and cabin heat are what dry leather out and fade it.
- Wipe seats with a damp cloth and a mild leather cleaner rather than all-purpose sprays, which can strip the finish.
- Condition the leather a few times a year, more often if the vehicle lives outside.
- Rinse off sunscreen, salt water and sweat sooner rather than later. All three leave residue that works into the grain.
If a seam ever opens or a panel gets damaged, bring it back. Repairs are something we do routinely, as we explain in our post on why custom interior repair adds value to your car.
